C. Evans Poston Jr. received an undergraduate degree from the College of William & Mary in 2002, a M.P.A. degree from Old Dominion University in 2004, and a M.B.A. degree from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia in 2017. He resides in Norfolk, Virginia.
Mr. Poston is the Director of Federal and State Affairs at Troutman Strategies. He focuses his practice on state and local government affairs; legislative, budgetary, and regulatory strategy; and economic development efforts on behalf of businesses, local governments, regional organizations, and other clients. He expands the firm’s government affairs and economic development capabilities to the Hampton Roads metropolitan region, a significant driver of Virginia’s economy. His state government experience and knowledge stretches across Virginia.
Mr. Poston served as a Director of Government Relations for Hunton Andrews Kurth from 2021-2025. He also served as the Commissioner of the Revenue for the city of Norfolk, Virginia from 2014-2021. In 2011, Inside Business selected him for the Hampton Roads “Top Forty Under 40” award.
Mr. Poston served as the Chairman of Governor Abigail Spanberger’s Inauguration Committee and is a member of the Attorney General Jay Jones Transition Committee. He is a member of the Darden School of Business Foundation Board of Trustees, a former member of the University of Virginia Board of Visitors (appointed by Governor Northam in 2018), UVA Health System Board of Directors, former president of the Virginia Association of Locally Elected Constitutional Officers, former member of the Virginia College Building Authority, and past president of Tidewater Region of the Commissioner of the Revenue Association of Virginia.
Mr. Poston was appointed to the Board of Visitors by Governor Spanberger in 2026.
