Marvin Gilliam, Jr. graduated from the University of Virginia with a BA in Economics. He currently owns and manages MAM Development LLC. He spent over 30 years in the mining industry finishing as part owner and vice president of Cumberland Resources Corporation.
He previously served on the Board of Visitors from 2010-2014 and currently serves as a Trustee on the Virginia Athletics Foundation and is on the board of the University of Virginia’s College at Wise where he has served on several college search committees. He is the Board Chair of the Wellspring Foundation of Southwest Virginia, serves as a Trustee of the Barter Theater and is a former Trustee of Johnston Memorial Hospital and William King Museum of Art.
Mr. Gilliam resides in Washington County, Virginia with his wife, Marcia.
Mr. Gilliam was appointed to the Board of Visitors by Governor Youngkin in 2024.
