Mohsin Raza Syed served in the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) as Chief of Staff to the Secretary of Transportation and, previously, as the U.S. Senate-confirmed Assistant Secretary for Governmental Affairs.

Mr. Syed has held senior positions on Capitol Hill, including Majority Chief Counsel for the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, Minority Staff Director for the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation's Subcommittee on Aviation Operations, Safety, and Security, and Legislative Counsel to a U.S. Senator.  Earlier in his career, he served as a career Attorney-Advisor in USDOT's Office of the General Counsel, an attorney in private practice, and an intelligence officer with the Defense Intelligence Agency.

Mr. Syed earned his bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Virginia.  He also completed UVA's Sorensen Institute for Civic Leadership Political Leaders Program in 2024.

Mr. Syed serves on Joby Aviation's Aviation and Policy Advisory Board and is a Senior Advisor with WestExec Advisors.  He also serves on the boards of the Virginia Health Care Foundation and Advance Arlington.

Mr. Syed grew up in Prince William County and resides in Arlington with his wife and their three sons.  He was appointed to the University of Virginia Board of Visitors by Governor Spanberger in 2026.
